Esteem Maison was founded in 2022 by the Johnson family. Monica Johnson, founder, began her curly hair journey in 2010. After years of relaxing her hair and spending hours in salons, only to have moisture or humidity contribute to a ‘bad hair’ day, Monica decided to embrace her natural curls. Years of experimenting with various products and techniques has resulted in Monica developing deep knowledge of natural hair and curls. She shared her expertise and passion for hair and skin care to her co-founder sons Grant, Carlton and Christian. Additionally, co-founder Mark Johnson, Monica’s husband, has significant consumer products and hair care knowledge. His uncle Harry for years owned and operated Johnson’s Beauty Supply, Louisville, Kentucky’s most prominent black hair care retail stores and wholesale distribution. Further, Mark's Aunt Sharon Bracken was a prominent Louisville hair stylist for over four decades. Both passed down a wealth of information about various hair techniques, products, ingredients and consumer needs to Mark, making him very knowledgeable of curly hair/textured hair care.
As a family, we see a massive opportunity to contribute to the black beauty industry. With a focus on providing custom-developed, highly-effective and clean products, as well as honest and transparent information, we intend to make a mark on a sector that has historically been under-represented or misrepresented.
